Soccer Championship Moves PIAA from Hersheypark Stadium to Cumberland Valley High School – CBS Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – How sweet. For at least the next four years, Pennsylvania High School football championship games will no longer be played in Hershey.

PIAA announced Wednesday that their championship games for soccer, soccer and field hockey will be played at nearby Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg.

The PIAA Football Championship has been held at Hersheypark since 1998.

According to KDKA news partners at the Pittsburgh Post-GazetteMansion Park in Altoona and Penn State Beaver Stadium have also submitted bids to host the title games.

“It was a very difficult decision because of our loyalty to all of our sites,” said PIAA chief executive Bob Lombardi. “When you have spent a long time in certain places, you develop relationships with people. But we’re very pleased with what we’ve got in our decision-making process.”

The PIAA says the outdated facilities at Hersheypark Stadium are a factor in determining where the championship games will take place in the future.

“Especially with some of the changes they’re going to make – not only adding a new pitch and changing out the press box – they also have an indoor surface that can be used, a gym, a gym, a focus area. communication center, two artificial surfaces can Lombardi say. “There’s a lot of stuff out there that’s very exciting, and the Cumberland Valley makes for a very good financial package for us.”

• Cross Country – Parkview CC Course, Hershey, PA
• Women’s Volleyball – Cumberland Valley HS, Mechanicsburg, PA
