PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Pittsburgh is having its first major snowfall of the year, and the area is bracing for the impact.

Snow safety tips

Conditions outside are expected to deteriorate rapidly starting late Sunday afternoon through Monday.

First of all, if you can, you should stay home.

But if you have to travel for work or have an emergency, be sure to bring your essentials with you – warm clothes, food, water, a fully charged phone are just what you need.

You should also ensure that your vehicle is prepared to withstand the elements.

Bethel Park Mayor Jack Allen has declared a snow emergency for the city.

Snow has arrived in Pittsburgh and more is expected to fall in the next 12 hours.

Jan 16, 2pm – First snowfall

Uniontown and other areas are seeing some of the first snowflakes.

Snowfall is small for now but more snow accumulation is expected over the next few hours.

Our meteorologists have updated their snow forecasts based on the latest models. Pittsburgh is expected to see 6-12 inches of snow.
