The 34-year-old reported on Twitter at the weekend couldn’t keep quiet after one of her fans tweeted: “The show’s treatment of @melissavcomedy has just been galling and seemingly turned into open disdain given her great talent. I can not stand.”

In response, Melissa tweeted back, “Thanks foo I agree haha,” sparking a firestorm of opinions both for and against the show’s first-ever Latina cast member.

Fans chimed in on a Reddit page.

“Melissa Villaseñor seems pretty much done with SNL,” the chat room was captioned.

“I like Melissa well enough but I don’t think SNL is the right place for her,” one fan immediately posted.

“She’s a bit of a one trick pony imo,” countered another person. “She’s doing 4-5 voices really well but she’s not a good actress, messing up lines all the time, not really being believable and trying to recycle those 4-5 impressions onto characters that are really bad together.”

Another added: “Melissa does this weird thing where she chokes on her own voice as she delivers lines.

“She doesn’t project well, her facial expressions and body language almost never match what she’s saying, and she doesn’t command the stage at all.

“It’s almost like when I’m watching her, she’s trying to subtly convey that she doesn’t really want to be in this sketch.”

But for all her supporters and critics, many others were simply concerned about the image of a person complaining in public rather than dealing with their issues behind the scenes.

“I like Melissa but she has to hang up the phone,” one person remarked. “Complaining about the show while she’s on it, even if she’s right, is a bad look for any potential future employer.”

Another person agrees, pointing out, “It sucks they don’t use them but it’s embarrassing how often she brings it up on social media.

“Just leave if you don’t feel appreciated.”

REPEATER

In fact, this isn’t the first time Melissa has complained about her lack of screen time.

Last May, Melissa joined SNL In 2016, she seemingly very publicly quit on Instagram before changing her mind.

She is said to have written“I’m not coming back to snl next year. Because I deserve better [sic].”

Though she quickly deleted the message, Villaseñor later addressed it on her Instagram Story, telling her fans that she was drinking and got “too cocky” when she released her statement.

PETE’S PLANS

Of course, SNL creator Lorne Michaels could face a bigger replacement problem if fears of Pete Davidson’s departure materialize.

A source said, “He would love to have him for years to come and especially for the show’s upcoming 50th anniversary.”

According to HollywoodLife, SNL boss Lorne Michaels isn’t confident the 28-year-old will stay with the popular NBC show.

The comedy show’s half-century milestone will land in 2025 and is sure to reunite various iconic stars from the long-running series.

The insider continued: “[Lorne] mainly fears that he will lose him, but he will do whatever he can to keep him with him. However, convincing Pete to stay could be more difficult than expected.”

They added: “Lorne really would love nothing more than to have Pete on the show forever if he wanted to.

“He would love it if Pete followed the same path as Keenan [Thompson] and to be able to do the show and do other things that interest him, but Lorne isn’t stupid.”
