Slow Trailer: HBO Docs Insights into Corrupt Baltimore Police

“The Wire” Actress and Filmmaker Sonja Sohn Returns With Her 2017 Sequel documentary “Baltimore is rising.” The new movie, titled “Slow hustle, ” Seems to be an equally powerful look at the corruption that continues in the world of the Baltimore police department and the activists who seek to expose it.

“The Slow Hustle” details the mysterious death of veteran Baltimore police officer, Detective Sean Suiter. As the series ends, Suiter’s death is just one in a string of corruption charges against the Baltimore PD, with Suiter himself being marked as a key witness in an upcoming trial. As various journalists, family members and others involved in the case raised, the desire was to sell Suiter as another bad apple so that the story would be extinguished.

Coincidentally, the trailer came out 4 years after Suiter was killed. HBO continues to weave scathing social commentary into compelling stories, and watching this trailer instantly makes audiences want to watch. This documentary comes attractive on the heel of their other recent material about black photographer and filmmaker Gordon Parks, “The Choice of Weapons.”

Sohn rose to prominence as an actress as Detective Shakima Greggs on “The Wire,” a series about the Baltimore police department. While Sohn has done recurring spins on “Burn Announcement,” “The Chi,” and “Star Trek: Discovery,” she has captivated audiences with “Baltimore Rising,” the exploration of the city after what’s happened. Freddie Gray’s death.

In his review of this feature, Steve Greene of IndieWire praising Sohn .’s multi-layered and nuanced approach for materials. “’Baltimore Rising’ does not confuse hope for complacency. It recognizes that through various themes including modern Baltimore life, the commitment to racial equality and the promotion of a culture of safety is an ongoing process. So when the movie ended with the one-year anniversary of Gray’s death, both were of the opinion that there was more work to be done. But “Baltimore Rising” shows a city struggling to find ways to ensure that work benefits all of its citizens.”
