Sky Sports have had to turn down the TV volume after Gerwyn Price was targeted for X-rated abuse at darts championships

GERWYN PRICE endured horrendous abuse and adult chanting after surviving a second-round scare last night.

The world number 1 came out of defeat as she defeated the brave Luke Woodhouse 3-1 on the fifth night of the PDC World Darts Championship.

However, Sky Sports had to turn down the TV volume as abusive members of the crowd chanted at the Welshman: “You’re just like Gareth Bale.”

Unfortunately, 37-year-old Price has grown accustomed to hearing such abuse on a darts stage.

But after booking his spot after Christmas and avoiding the biggest shock of the tournament, he responded to the bettors by flexing his huge biceps.

The Iceman – who hit a 150 checkout in the fourth set – can face Raymond van Barneveld in the third round once the turkey is digested.

And the pair have more recent history from last month’s Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton.

Price said: “It was really tough, the most nerve I’ve felt in the last two years. I should have been 0-2 behind. Luke, bless him, luckily fell apart.

“It was a tough game. I had to get through it.

“I’m defending the big money, I don’t want to go in the first round. I never feel nervous, so that was unusual.

“Right from the start I was happy that I made it through. Now everything is clear.

“I would like to win the title again – if they are a little nicer to me.

“It’s tough up here, the majority of the players and the majority of the fans are English and it’s really tough. Regardless of the crowd and the circumstances, I’ll do my best.”

Canadian DAVID CAMERON defeated Essex boy Ritchie Edhouse 3-2 despite having a WASP on his shirt for the final set.

Antique car STEVE BEATON appeared in a record-breaking 32nd consecutive World Championship spanning both BDO and PDC circuits.

But the 58-year-old’s evening was ruined by a 3-0 defeat by Dutchman Danny van Trijp.
