He is said to have fallen out after the end of the Premier League season’s opening game, which was shown on big screens at The Showbar on the ground.

Witnesses said he yelled “I can’t breathe” before turning blue while being held down.

Police and forensics have swamped the Parkdean Resorts following last night’s incident.

Sussex Police said: “Police have arrested six people on suspicion of murder following the death of a man at a holiday park on Lydd Road, Camber Sands, in the early hours of Saturday morning (6 August).

“Emergency services were called around 10.50pm on Friday (5 August) to receive reports of an altercation involving a group of people.

“Despite the best efforts of paramedics, a 58-year-old man was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene shortly after midnight. His next of kin have been informed.

“Six people have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are currently in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Emma Vickers, of the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, said: “Our investigation is at a very early stage but I would like to reassure the public that this appears to be an isolated case with no major risk of harm.

“Officials are now working to establish the full circumstances, while the victim’s next of kin are being assisted by specialist officers.”

A holidaymaker who had been ordered to leave the resort following the police incident this morning said: “I’ve been here with my family for a week and this morning we went to the corner shop to find out what happened .”

Parkdean, who runs the resort, sent a message to those staying there today saying there had been a “serious incident”.

It said it was a “live police investigation” and that the complex would remain closed pending further investigation by officers.

It offered compensation of £100 to anyone who had to cancel activities and leave the park.

The message read: “We would like to draw your attention to the fact that a serious incident occurred in our complex area last night.

“As this is a live police investigation, our team is doing everything we can to assist in your investigation.

“Please note that they cannot comment on this incident.

“Our complex area in the park will remain closed and will not reopen until investigations are complete.

“We will update you on this this afternoon.

“If you have any activities booked for today, our team at the park will be in touch to advise if these events can go ahead.

“Due to the limited facilities on offer today we would like to offer you a £100 refund as a goodwill gesture

“This will be automatically transferred to the card you used to make your booking by our customer team within the next 7 days.” Six arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died at popular family holiday park Parkdean Resorts in Camber Sands
