Sierra Jenkins dies at 25

A FORMER CNN reporter was one of two people killed in a shooting outside a restaurant that also injured three others.

Journalist Sierra Jenkins25 years old, is one of the victims trapped in the fire in Virginia before 2 am today.

Authorities said she later died of her injuries at a local hospital.

The former CNN reporter has left Chicho’s Pizza Backstage, a popular downtown restaurant and bar Norfolk area when gunfire rang out after an argument following the bartender’s last drink order.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene, and three others were injured. One person has a life-threatening injury.

The tragedy comes just days after Sierra celebrated her 25th birthday on March 13.

Sierra worked at Atlanta Magazine and CNN before moving to Hampton Roads, Virginia in 2020.

The Georgia State graduate wrote for the local Virginian-Pilot publication at the time of her death, where she reported on school policies and issues in the area.

“For two years, she told the stories of Hampton Roads with compassion and care,” the Virginian pilot said in a tribute. Facebook post.

“Sierra is funny, energetic and full of enthusiasm. We are truly heartbroken.

Kris Worrell, editor-in-chief of Virginia Media, says the community is “better because of her reporting.”

According to The Pilot, Sierra was scheduled to work the news shift on the day of her death.

Her editors were unable to reach her on Saturday morning, leading them to discover that she was among the dead.

‘A NORMAL NIGHT’

Sierra’s father Maurice Jenkins told The Pilot that Sierra rarely goes out, but she has a friend in town who wants to go to a bar downtown.

Restaurant manager Rory Schindel said the moments before the shooting were of an “ordinary night”, an estimated 180 people in the vicinity when the call was finally announced.

“As usual there were a lot of people there and there was a great atmosphere inside,” said Schindel.

Police have not announced any suspects or arrests in the shooting.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to call 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or go to submit a tip online.
