DIDDY shocked the world when he was joined on stage by Shyne during his performance at the 2022 BET Awards on June 26.
Shyne was signed to Diddy’s Bad Boy record label but dropped after a shooting in 1999 that soured their relationship.
What happened between Shyne and Diddy?
On December 27, 1999, Shyne, Diddy, and Diddy’s then-girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez, visited Club New York in Manhattan.
A conversation between Diddy and Brooklyn native Matthew ‘Scar’ Allen turned heated after a drink was spilled on him, leading to Shyne pulling a gun and firing shots around the area.
Three people were injured by the shots.
Shyne, then 21, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for attempted murder, assault and reckless endangerment.
While Diddy was eventually found not guilty to gun charges related to the shooting.
By 2003, Shyne was axed from Diddys’ Bad Boy Records, and a year later he publicly said Diddy cheated on him.
Are the rappers friends now?
During an appearance on an episode of Drink Champs, Shyne sat down with NORE and DJ EFN to talk about his career, politics and life after prison.
Shyne, who was released from prison in 2009, opened up about his relationship with the CEO of Bad Bad Records after the New York nightclub incident. He said: “I don’t blame him as much now as I did then.
“Because I went through a period of bitterness. But in hindsight, I tend to blame the lawyers who advised him.
He continued: “When your lawyers mislead and misdirect you, it all falls apart. And he said that to me. He said, ‘I’m sorry. I should never have listened to those lawyers.’ I have forgiven him.
“It was traumatic. I would forgive him and then you might hear me a few months later when I lashed out at him. That was over a decade ago and I was in a different situation then.”

What is Shyne doing now?
Shyne left the music industry to pursue a career in politics, following in the footsteps of his father, Dean Barrow, who became Belize’s first black prime minister in 2008.
In April 2010, he was named a Musical Goodwill Ambassador of Belize and helped plan concerts for artists.
When he returned to his hometown of Mesopotamia for his mother’s 60th birthday, he was inspired to find meaning and purpose in his life.
“I realized by observing the locals and what they were going through through poverty and lack of prospects.
“I started thinking about my life and how lucky I was to have such wonderful opportunities and to be able to pursue my ambition and dream of being a musician.”
He added, “I started thinking I should come back to Belize and focus my energies on bringing opportunities to the people in my community.”
