‘Shut Up Clowns’ – Jamie Carragher lashes out at England fans and sings ‘I Don’t Know What You’re Doing’ to Southgate

JAMIE CARRAGHER told Gareth Southgate’s sleigh riders, “Shut up you clowns”.

England’s 4-0 defeat by Hungary was a game with few laughs.

But former Three Lions defender Carragher slammed fans who chanted “You don’t know what you’re doing” to the manager amid the Molineux mauling.

The ex-Liverpool star pointed out that Southgate would guide England to the last four of the 2018 World Cup and the Euro 2020 final.

Southgate himself insisted he had to try a few things in the Nations League but saw his experimental line-up suffer their heaviest home defeat since 1928 and once again fail to score in open play.

And many fans found it too much when he replaced winger Bukayo Saka with central defender Bukayo Saka when they were 3-0 down.

But Sky Sports pundit Carragher reacted heavily on social media.

He tweeted, “‘You don’t know what you’re doing,’ shut up you clowns. This coach has led the country to the top spots in two tournaments since 1966. #ENGvHUN“.

Some critics supported Carragher’s view that Southgate still enjoys good credit.

But others claimed he was lucky with favorable draws, particularly at the World Cup four years ago.

One wrote: “Goldene Generation just lost 4-0 at home in a competitive game. He’s not immune to criticism, that was miserable.”

And despite insisting Southgate knows what he’s doing, ex-England midfielder Joe Cole blasted a “terrible” performance.

The former Chelsea and Liverpool playmaker told Channel 4: “It’s shocking. Tonight’s performance was shocking, the players weren’t there.

“There was no cohesion. The attitude was wrong from the start. They weren’t there, it wasn’t aggressive.

“I understand the reaction from the fans, but we have to put it into perspective.

“Gareth Southgate knows what he’s doing. He has led the team to two semi-finals and is the most successful manager since Alf Ramsey. That is a fact.

“Tonight was terrible. You’ll get dressed up and feel sorry for yourself, but put some perspective on it.”

And former Anfield left-back Stephen Warnock suggested a new manager could make the Three Lions world champions.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “What if this is the same in September and you have two performances where the team looks lost – they looked lost tonight.

“Then you have to change that and don’t give the manager time to implement his style. I didn’t see a thing from England tonight and haven’t seen a thing from them in the last four games.

This is the best group of players we’ve had in a long time and we’re going to give up the opportunity to win the World Cup.

Stephen Warnock

“I’ve always been someone I didn’t want a manager to get fired on, but I’m not sure he’s the right man.

“There are other candidates who are better suited to do that and Gareth Southgate will be under pressure.

“This is the best group of players we’ve had in a long time and we will give up the opportunity to win the World Cup.

“I think this team can win a World Cup if managed properly. They have players who play for Manchester City and Liverpool and they should achieve more.”
