Shocking moment: ‘Psychotic’ driver chases biker father of three and crashes into him at 130 km/h in fatal accident

A “PSYCHOTIC” motorist who rammed and killed a motorcyclist after chasing him has been locked up in a psychiatric hospital today.

Paul Barrett aimed his car at father-of-three Ryan Brindley in an “accidental” and unprovoked attack, a court has heard.

Before he ran over Ryan, the 43-year-old took his mother’s VW Touran and drove it through the picturesque village of Dinton, Wiltshire, at almost 80mph.

When Paul saw the motorcyclist coming in the opposite direction, he abruptly reversed and began chasing him.

The “mad” driver began to put his foot “full” on the accelerator pedal to catch up.

Dashcam footage filmed from his car and shown to the court shows him brutally plowing into the rear of the motorcycle at a speed of 120km/h.

His victim was thrown from his motorcycle, killing him instantly as he landed on the road.

Barrett’s car carried the motorcycle for a distance before hitting a wall.

A passer-by found him there minutes later and heard him say something.

He reportedly said, “I think I killed him, didn’t I?”

Barrett was arrested and taken to the hospital for an examination before being taken into police custody.

The brutal attack came days after the motorist, who is bipolar, told health workers he must be “dissected or die”.

He is in the midst of an extreme “psychotic episode” and believes he is being pursued by the “state,” a judge said.

Today Barrett appeared at Winchester Crown Court for sentencing after pleading guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility.

In a statement to victims, Ryan’s partner said: “Ryan was a wonderful person – he will be missed by so many.

“He was a deeply private man and while I understand there are many people who want to read and understand what happened, I would ask that everyone, including the media, respect Ryan’s remaining family and their privacy.

“I know Ryan would hate all the attention this case has brought.”

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Childe told local media that Ryan’s killing was “entirely accidental and unprovoked,” which had shocked the local community.

He said: “I would like to pay tribute to Ryan’s family who have suffered such a devastating loss and thank them for the support they have shown during the police investigation.

“Ryan was taken from them in the most atrocious circumstances and my thoughts go out to them at this extremely difficult time.”
