A video posted on tick tockshows pub-goers fleeing the fire as horrified screams filled the air.
The fire broke out at Spy Bar in Newcastle upon Tyne while people poured out of several adjacent pubs.
Revelers enjoyed the afternoon sun on Saturday afternoon when a canopy at one of the tables burst into flames.
The inferno reportedly reached a height of 14 feet and could be seen from the second floor of the building behind the bar.
A plume of smoke hung over the area as crowds poured onto the street.
social media Commenters were stunned by the footage, with one writing: “Stop recording on your phones and someone call the fire department.”
Another added: “And not a single person stuck their head in the door to grab a fire extinguisher.”
The cause of the fire has not yet been clarified.
A spokesman for the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service said: “We can confirm that we received a report of a parasol on fire at around 3.45pm on Saturday afternoon at a site on Osborne Road in Jesmond.”
“A unit from the Newcastle Central Community Fire Station was on site in just six minutes but the fire was already suppressed.
“We made sure the area was safe and left the scene of the accident.
“No one was injured and we will be working with the local authority and affected business to understand the circumstances surrounding the fire.”
Northumberland Police and the North East Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
A spokesman for Spy Bar & Lounge said: “Our staff completed their training and quickly and competently fought a small fire. We thank them and the fire brigade for keeping the area safe.
“Health and safety is an absolute priority and expert contractors will be on site to carry out a thorough inspection of the remaining parasols that are not in use until then.
“We will be open as usual.”
