ABC 7 NY reports that people who witnessed the accident helped rescue some of the victims.

The FDNY reported seven patients were admitted, including the two who were killed.

One victim is in critical condition, police said. The remaining four are stable and expected to survive.

Officials say the vehicle that caused the accident was a white sedan and struck several vehicles, including a black SUV.

The crash was stopped when the vehicle hit a light pole.

“I heard a big noise, when I came out I saw this guy out the windshield, he was bleeding,” said a witness.

“I see the other car, that lady, her shoulder was out, the guy they were trying to pull out, he wasn’t breathing so they tried to give him cardiac pressure. He did not make it.”

The driver of the white limousine is 49 years old and is in custody.

There is an ongoing police investigation in which authorities are determining whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

Justin Brennan, a member of the City Council, tweeted about the incident.

“Anyone who knows this area well knows how crowded it can be in the middle of the day,” he wrote.

“A driver who, without regard for anyone or anything, speeds and burns red lights in a crowded area must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
