Local Fox affiliate WFLD identified the victim as Frances Walker, a woman who rented additional rooms in her home on Chicago’s North Side.
One of the tenants at Walker’s home, which police described as a boarding house, reported Walker missing Monday.
She had not been seen for about a day after being spotted walking around the neighborhood on Sunday.
“When police arrived, this person informed the police that there was another suspect living in the apartment that the other tenants were afraid of,” said detective chief Brendan Deenihan.

“And this suspect had recently called a tow truck and carried a heavy bag to the tow truck.
“This tenant, who we would like to thank very much for doing a remarkable job, also exchanged numbers with the tow truck driver.”
The information led officers to Foster Beach, where they found bloodied rags in a lakeside garbage can.
“We learned that this person threw a large plastic bag in a trash can at Foster Beach,” Deenihan said.
“And detectives were able to go to that garbage can and see that there were some bloody towels in that garbage can.”
Detectives took the gory evidence and contents of the trash to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination.
After finding the bloody rags, detectives began searching the boarding house.
VICTIM “DISCARTED”
Police officers then discovered the human remains in a freezer.
Citing sources, WFLD reported that the victim had been dismembered.
A search warrant was obtained so investigators could “go in and get everything back [the] Evidence right,” said the chief.
“We still have a long way to go, but obviously we believe the missing person… is unfortunately the person we discovered,” Deenihan said.
Investigators also spoke to the tow truck driver, who claimed he was threatened with a knife after picking up a woman.
He pointed cops at the Foster Beach trash can and claimed the woman he was taking dropped the large bag there.
WFLD reported that one of the victim’s tenants was questioned at police headquarters but did not cooperate.
No one had been charged in connection with the murder as police continued their investigation on Tuesday.
‘PLEASANT PERSON’
Neighbors said they often saw Walker outside their house working in their garden.
She has played piano for several churches in the area and a ballet company in Evanston.
A neighbor said: “It was always a pleasant person to meet, always had something good to say.
“She was a person of faith and I think it showed.”
“I don’t know why anyone would want to do this to her,” neighbor Cecilia Soto told the Chicago Sun Times.

“She was extremely nice, she would always be happy.”
The police have yet to reveal the cause of her death.
