A MAN faces up to 10 years in prison after admitting he paid $20,000 in crypto to have a 14-year-old child murdered.

John Michael Musbach, 31, was accused of exchanging sexually explicit photos and videos with the then 13-year-old victim in the summer of 2015, according to authorities.

The victim had been living in New York at the time, while Musbach was living in Haddonfield, New Jersey.

He pleaded guilty to the charge of “knowingly and intentionally using a facility of interstate and foreign commerce, that is, the Internet, and causing others to use a facility of interstate and foreign commerce, with intent to commit murder ‘ the Justice Department said.

The victim’s parents found out about the contact with Musbach and reported it to the police.

He was later arrested in March 2016 for child pornography.

Prosecutors believe Musbach decided to have the child killed so they could not testify against him.

Between May 7, 2016 and May 20, 2016, he allegedly contacted the administration of a murder-for-hire website on the dark web multiple times.

“Musbach asked if a 14-year-old was too young to attack, and upon hearing that age was not an issue, paid about 40 bitcoin (about $20,000 at the time) for the hit,” prosecutors said .

After the payment, Musbach would continue to message the site’s administrator to ask when the killing would happen, authorities said.

The admin demanded an additional $5,000, prompting Musbach to attempt to call off the hit to get his $20,000 back.

At that point, the administrator revealed to Musbach that the site was a hoax and threatened to hand him over to the police.

Musbach faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine “of $250,000, twice the gross profit for Musbach or twice the gross loss for the victim of his crime.”

His sentencing is scheduled for June 13.
