SHOCKING footage shows the violent moment a ‘stolen’ SUV ran a red light and crashed into several cars before a suspect was arrested.
Officials are investigating the “possible police pursuit” after finding the vehicle appeared to have been used in an armed carjacking the day before the horror event.
Police arrested 24-year-old Louisiana native Antonio Miller, the man who was driving the stolen vehicle, at the scene in New Orleans on Tuesday.
The incident began when officers spotted a blue SUV reportedly used in an armed carjacking earlier in the week, court records show.
Police discovered the vehicle in a hotel parking lot around 2:30 p.m. ET, WWLTV reported.
Police officers followed the SUV down a freeway before turning on their lights to “initiate a vehicle pursuit,” according to a police report verified by WWL.
Surveillance footage shows the blue SUV dividing lanes before speeding through a red light.
Police officers followed close behind, footage shows.
Shortly after running a red light, Miller falls, leading to his arrest at the scene.
Officials are now investigating whether the event is believed to be a police chase and whether or not the driver was involved in the earlier carjacking.
“We are currently investigating whether or not this was actually a pursuit,” the New Orleans Police Department superintendent said.
“We are still in the early stages and it is being carried out by our investigative team.”
Police are currently calling the event a “possible car chase” because a federal consent decree says officers must have dispatch permission before initiating a pursuit.
According to the police report, Miller admitted to stealing the car.
However, he says he saw the car running and then “hopped in and left”.
Miller was charged with stealing a motor vehicle, possessing stolen property and fleeing an officer, according to the WWL.
This incident is still under investigation.
