Sherri Papini arrested – Cops say ‘missing’ mother fabricated kidnapping and fake injuries in 2016 after she was ‘dropped off’ in street

A mother who claimed she was kidnapped and robbed at gunpoint has been arrested after fabricating the story, police said.
California’s Sherri Papini disappeared for weeks in 2016, sparking a widespread search with FBI agents.
She was found on Thanksgiving when a driver spotted her on the side of the road – 150 miles from her home.
Papini told police she was kidnapped and claimed she was held at gunpoint.
However, investigators found that she made up the story and was in Costa Mesa with her ex-boyfriend.
She was accused of providing false information and engaging in mail fraud PEOPLE Magazine.
Phillip A. Talbert, US Attorney for the Eastern District of California, said, “Ultimately, the investigation concluded that there was no kidnapping.”
