Sheriff Braddock faces termination hearing this week – CBS Pittsburgh

BRADDOCK (KDKA) – In Braddock, it’s a battle to see who is in charge.

The sheriff faces a termination hearing this week, but the sheriff said he is filing charges against the precinct manager and council president.

Sheriff Guy Collins said he suspected things were amiss last week when two county officials showed up to arrest his police cruiser and a shouting match ensued.

“Next thing I know, our district manager and council president is knocking on my door, asking for my keys. And yes, I was very upset,” he said.

The fight was just one of several allegations raised in a notice requiring him to appear at the county building for a disciplinary hearing on Thursday morning. The sheriff said despite being sidelined with a whistle, the county is trying to fire him.

“I had a stroke on February 23 while at work, and it seems like now they are trying to think of anything to try to end my condition,” he said.

Things have turned rough between the chief and the new leadership in the county, but neither the area manager nor any member of the council would comment on Monday.

But in the hearing notice, they accused the head of not filling out a time card and spent 70% of the department’s overtime budget in the first three months of the year. The head said time cards were filled out and overtime was needed.

He added that the county had violated his rights and that he plans to file charges against both the manager and the council president.

“We’re looking to file charges, much more of an obstacle,” Collin said. “I was not written up. I was not served with any documents that I violated anything. But all of a sudden, this is what I got in the mail. “

And his department seems to be standing behind him.

“Until I hear from someone else, Guy Collins is my boss,” Sgt. Michael Smerkar said. “He’s still the sheriff of this department.”
