A MAN has been accused of killing his wife by running her over at Salt Lake City International Airport shortly after the couple returned from vacation.
Shawn Christopher Sturgeon, 38, was arrested after he allegedly hit and killed his wife Charlotte Sturgeon, 29, in the couple’s SUV in the airport parking lot on Monday.
This was announced by the Salt Lake City Police Department 2KUTV that the accident occurred around 2:40 p.m. on the second floor of the airport car park.
After Shawn allegedly hit his wife, he drove with his wife to the airport garage pay desk to ask for help for his seriously injured wife.
Paramedics were called to the garage and took Charlotte to the nearest hospital, where she later died.
“ICYMI: Police say a husband and wife had just returned from vacation when things turned deadly.” tweeted Jeremy Harris from 2KUTV News.
Shawn was arrested on a suspected car murder – criminal negligence DUI and is currently in police custody.
Police have not released a possible motive for the accident, and they have not clarified whether they believe Shawn intentionally hit his wife.
Deseret News writes that under Utah law “a person may be arrested on a motor vehicle investigation if the driver is negligent in operating a motor vehicle causing the death of another and has a blood alcohol content above the legal limit of 0.05%. ”
The couple lived together in Taylorsville, Utah, according to their last address.
The accident had no impact on airport operations or air traffic.
