Several Dollar General locations have closed due to major changes – see if yours is on the list
DOLLAR General locations across the country have been closed due to ongoing security breaches.
The closures follow several customer complaints about unsafe conditions due to overstocked merchandise clogging aisles and other parts of the store.

The problem dates back to November 2022, when customer complaints led to the closure of a Dollar General in Gretna, Virginia.
Firefighters found numerous violations on site.
“There were carts full of supplies that needed to be placed on the shelves, which partially blocked the aisles. There was also a lack of sufficient clearance between the height of the stores and the ceiling. The heating system wasn’t working and the switchboards were jammed,” Christopher Key, director of public safety for Pittsylvania County, told the Chatham Star-Tribune.
Back in December, a location in Mondovi, Wisconsin was temporarily closed due to a failed fire safety inspection.

“The biggest violations were the ability for customers and firefighters to escape if necessary,” Mondovi Fire Chief Steve Anderson told WQOW
The problems also persisted into the new year at other locations.
MORE INJURIES
Just a few weeks ago, two locations in the same North Carolina county were closed due to safety breaches.
Watauga County Fire Marshal Shane Garland closed both the Vilas and Zionville locations due to blocked exits and other violations.
“We found the stores with blocked aisles and exits,” Garland said.
At least six Dollar Generals have closed, at least temporarily, over the past few months because of the violations, according to Insider’s report.
Most of the closed Dollar General Stores have now reopened.
MORE SHOP CLOSURES
While Dollar General is struggling with security issues, many other retailers have reduced their presence due to financial issues.
That includes Walmart, which despite being one of the most successful companies in the world, is closing numerous locations this March due to financial underperformance.
Meanwhile, Bed Bath & Beyond has pledged to close over 100 stores in 2023 to avoid bankruptcy.
And both CVS and Walgreens have closed stores to cut costs.
