SEVERAL people, including a 12-year-old girl, were shot dead in southeast Washington, DC.

The police are at the scene and are currently looking for clues.

Bureau Hugh Carew, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police Department, said a call reporting the shooting came in just after 10 p.m. Friday night.

Officials believe up to seven people were shot on a residential street in the Congress Heights neighborhood.

Several bullet casings were found on the ground.

The 12-year-old girl was reportedly shot several blocks away, but police are unsure if she is linked to the other victims.

Police confirmed that one of the victims is in critical condition.

DC Fire and EMS have already taken four people to the hospital.

Other victims are taken to trauma centers.
