SHOCKING details have emerged in the murder of American tourist Bakari Henderson, who was beaten to death by a mob for taking a selfie.
Henderson was on vacation in Zakynthos, Greece in July 2017 shooting for his new clothing line when the incident occurred.
No one was convicted in Henderson’s murder.
But now, nearly five years later, a retrial could finally lead to conviction in the sensational case.
The incident happened in a selfie
Henderson is said to have been hanging out in the village of Laganas with friends on the night of the incident.
A waitress is said to have taken a selfie with Henderson, the only Black male in the group.
A man who saw the captured selfie approached Henderson and the waiter and exchanged words before punching the man.
Henderson was then kicked out of the bar and quickly surrounded by other men, according to reports.
The entire attack was captured on surveillance footage.
During the attack, the group is said to have hit Henderson in a car, and then again on the ground.
Died in 30 seconds
The group of attackers beat Henderson and left him motionless on the street.
He died less than 30 seconds after being surrounded by the mob.
No one was convicted of murder
In 2018, nine people accused of assaulting Henderson were tried.
Six people were charged with attempted murder.
In Greece, this crime carries a life sentence.
However, they were not found guilty of murder. Instead, six were found guilty of assault.
The family has to re-trial
The prosecutor in the original trial ordered a retrial on the same charges.
However, it was delayed by more than two years due to the Covid pandemic.
It will now start on February 21, 2022.
Henderson’s parents will return to Greece for a retrial.
He was in Greece to launch his clothing line
Henderson was on the Greek island to shoot for his clothing line.
He brought samples of his own clothes and was working with models during the trip.
Picked up by Amazon after he passed away
After Henderson’s death, his clothesline was removed.
His parents started producing Bakari Luxury Sportswear as a way to honor their son after his death.
According to reports, they found Henderson’s diary after his death, which outlined plans and sketches for his clothing line, and possibly launched the line.
Amazon recently selected Bakari Luxury Sportswear to be its black-owned small business store.
