Tennis stars blow up Novak . case
Novak Djokovic’s expulsion on the eve of defending his Australian Open title has prompted rival players to demand scandals never to be repeated.
Unvaccinated Serb legend Djokovic has arrived in Dubai ‘deeply disappointed’ after losing his second lawsuit against the cancellation of his visa – which could mean a THREE YEAR ban from competition.
Three Federal Court judges backed the Australian Government to sue the 20-time Grand Slam winner out for public health reasons.
World No 1 Djokovic, 34, insisted he was ‘uncomfortable’ with the focus on him and added: “Now I’m going to take a moment to rest and recuperate.”
Brit Andy Murray said: “It’s not great for the tournament because it’s better when all the top players are playing.
“I don’t like him being detained.
“Hopefully that won’t happen at other events. I don’t want that for Novak, don’t want that for tennis and hopefully that’s done now.”
And Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios, who has been critical of Djokovic in the past, blasted his country’s ‘really bad’ handling of the track – urging officials to ‘do better’.
The Association of Professional Tennis (ATP) considers Djokovic’s call for defeat to be the end of “a string of deeply regrettable events”.
And the governing body has “recommended” all players to be vaccinated.
