Senator Tim Scott running for president without a wife could “mark a historic milestone,” experts say

A presidential candidate who wants to turn the White House into a bachelor pad has announced his candidacy.
Tim Scott, a Republican US Senator representing South Carolina, began his primary campaign Monday.
Given the popularity of former President Donald Trump, many see his candidacy as far-fetched, but Scott’s victory in the White House would be historic.
At 57, the politician is still unmarried.
Should Scott win, he would be the first president not to bring a spouse into the White House since 1884, when Grover Cleveland was inaugurated.
The only other president to run the country without a first lady was James Buchanan, who was the only commander-in-chief who never married. He took office in 1857.

“There’s always time for a great relationship with a wonderful woman,” Scott said NBC News on Monday when asked about his love life.
“I’ll leave it at that.”
When Scott first ran for office nearly two decades ago, he was fighting as a proud 30-year-old virgin with deep loyalty to his evangelical faith Daily Mail reported.
But by the time Scott turned 46, he found it increasingly difficult to abstain.
“Yeah… Not as good as it was then,” the Republican said at the time.
“The Bible is right. It’s better to wait,” he told the National Journal at the time.
“I just wish we all had more patience.”
Scott has put off getting married and having children to better care for his mother, who as a child worked 16-hour days as a nurse to keep food on the table.
“The most important thing for me as a poor kid was to take care of my mother,” Scott said political in 2018.
“And until I did that, starting a new family just wasn’t an option for me.”
The fact that Scott is single may not come to the fore if his campaign is unsuccessful, Conservative commentator Matt Lewis told the Daily Mail.
“I don’t think it matters at all,” he said.
“However, if Tim Scott is gaining momentum and poses a threat to Donald Trump, Trump would invoke something like that. And then it might matter.”
Scott’s undergraduate status isn’t the only thing notable about his political career.

He is already the first black person to sit in both houses of Congress. Politically reported.
Scott is currently the only black Republican in the US Senate and one of only three African Americans on that body.
