Legendary Hindi actor Seema Deo has died aged 83 after battling Alzheimer’s.

The Indian cinema star passed away on Thursday, just a year after the death of her beloved husband and actor Ramesh Deo, 93.

The couple’s youngest son, filmmaker Abhinay Deo, announced the news of his mother’s death in a brief statement.

He said: “Mum passed away this morning.

“She was fine, she had Alzheimer’s, but otherwise she was fine.”

Seema’s family announced in 2020 that she had been diagnosed with the brain condition and called on fans to pray for her.

Abhinay later told PTI, “She died of old age between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. at her home in Bandra.”

“She was completely withdrawn, and eventually it’s just age.”

“Alzheimer’s is so bad that you don’t know how to function anymore.

“She had dementia that led to Alzheimer’s and she suffered with it for over three years.”

The iconic actress has stayed out of the spotlight in recent years but has remained popular with Hindi and Marathi film fans.

Her death comes just over a year after the death of her husband Ramesh from a heart attack in February 2022.

The couple first met at a local train station before marrying in 1963 and being married for 59 years.

The Mumbai-born mother of two has starred in over 80 films throughout her illustrious Bollywood career.

Seema has shone in roles with the likes of Miya Bibi Razi, Dus Lakh, Kashmakash, Sunehera Sansar and Naseeb Apna Apna.

Her last appearance on the big screen was in Jivan Sandhya in 2021.

The humble film star said she owes her success to her late friend and fellow actor Raja Paranjpe, who acted as her mentor.

She previously said, “Whatever I’ve been able to achieve in my career, it’s all thanks to my Guru Raja Paranjpe.”

“Not only did he teach me how to act, but he coached me so thoroughly that it came naturally.”

Seema is survived by her two sons, Abhinay and actor Ajinkya.
