Second shooting in Louisville, Kentucky in 3 hours leaves 1 dead and triggers lockdown at Jefferson Community College

LOUISVILLE police have responded to a separate fatal shooting outside a college campus, less than a mile from the scene of a mass shooting at a bank.
The second shooting Monday morning in Louisville, Kentucky occurred outside Jefferson Community and Technical College, about a 20-minute walk from the Old National Bank, where four civilians were shot dead and eight others injured.

Witnesses told ABC affiliate WLKY they saw several Louisville Metro officers running from the Old National Bank to the Jefferson Community College shooting.
A male victim was pronounced dead on-screen, while another was taken to UofL hospital in an unknown condition.
The suspect fled the scene before police arrived at the school.
Police confirmed there were no active shooters on school property and the shooting was unrelated to that at the Old National Bank.

Jefferson Community College closed its campus at noon, the school announced on social media.
The outside school shooting happened about three hours after Metro Louisville police responded to gunfire at the Old National Bank on East Main Street around 8:40 a.m. Monday.
“HE JUST STARTED SHOOTING”
A witness who was in the building told WHAS11 he saw a man with a “long assault rifle” fire multiple shots in the first-floor bench near the conference room area.
“He just started shooting,” said the startled witness.
“I didn’t see his face. We were in the conference room. Whoever was next to me was shot, there’s blood on me.”
The shooter, who authorities have not identified, was dead when officers arrived at the scene, Metro Police said.
“We do not know the exact circumstances of his death at this time,” Metro Deputy Police Commissioner Paul Humphrey said.
Chief Humphrey confirmed responding officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect, but it’s unclear whether the gunman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound or during the shootout with police.
Police believe the suspect was a current or former employee of the bank.
The injured victims were transported to the University of Louisville Hospital.
Two of the eight injured victims were Metro Louisville police officers.
One officer and another wounded were in critical condition.
Several Louisville Metro officers, FBI and ATF agents were seen gathered outside the Old National Bank across from Slugger Field, home of the Cincinnati Reds’ Triple-A affiliate the Louisville Bats.
The Old National Bank is on the first floor of the multipurpose building on East Main Street.
Video posted to social media shows police responding to gunfire in the area as officers yell “active gunman in bank” and order people to leave the premises.
A witness told WDRB she was passing the intersection when she heard multiple gunshots and broken glass.
“I had just dropped my son off at work on River Road,” Debbie told the outlet.
“I was standing at the traffic light – as I sat at that intersection, shots erupted right over my head.

“I didn’t know if it was going to the bank or out of the bank. I ran away.”
“When I turned around, I saw that one of the windows in the bank had been blown out,” she added.
