Sean Penn’s ego will stop Robin Wright reconciliation, but he can’t leave her, friend reveals

Former Hollywood power couple Sean Penn and Robin Wright are unlikely to be getting back together any time soon, a pal has claimed.
The couple, who divorced in 2010, sparked rumors of a rekindled romance after being photographed together in Los Angeles twice this month.

But a friend who knows the family dynamics says Mystic River star Sean, 62, and House of Cards actress Robin, 56, face major stumbling blocks to being reunited.
For now, their focus is on being there for their daughter Dylan, 31, and son Hopper, 29, as their showbiz careers begin to take off.
But the source believes that while Sean can’t leave Robin, his ego is getting in the way of a full reconciliation.
The insider said, “Sean and Robin aren’t reconciled, but they’re spending a lot of time together because their kids need them on the same page right now as their careers in the industry accelerate.

“Also, Robin knows that being very involved in the lives of her and her children makes Sean happy, but there are lines he cannot and will not cross because Robin would shut him out forever.
“It’s a constant ego battle with Sean, and it’s a battle he has mostly with himself.
“He would really have to change to get back on Robin’s wavelength because she’s a very relaxed, calm and easy-going person at heart.”
‘CAN’T LEAVE HER’
Sean and Robin began dating in 1989 after his divorce from Madonna and married in 1996.

After not being seen together for years, the pair were photographed at LAX airport earlier this month before being spotted together again over the weekend.
They both ended their relationship last year, with Sean finalizing his divorce from Leila George in April while Robin filed for a divorce from Clément Giraudet in September.
Their daughter Dylan is an actress and model who has worked on campaigns for GAP and Ralph Lauren.
Meanwhile, her son Hopper’s Hollywood acting career is picking up steam and has seen him appear alongside A-list stars including Brad Pitt in the 2017 film War Machine.
The source said, “Even in her darkest moments, Robin admits the connection she shares with Sean extends beyond their marriage and even raising children together.
“He will never go out of her life and given the right circumstances, she would definitely take him back.
“He can’t leave her and she knows it, and that’s why his last marriage ended, the source speculated.
They added, “Even Sean’s best friends say Robin is the love of his life.
“It’s pretty clear he can’t make it work with anyone but her, and he doesn’t even seem to want to.
“But Robin is her own woman and has to call the shots in a relationship. This is about control.
“Even in the ten years since they were last together, Robin has changed – she’s become a filmmaker herself, she’s been through the drama of Kevin Spacey leaving House of Cards and taking the lead on the show last season, and she is still in demand as an actress.
“Robin is absolutely growing and evolving as a person and that is incredibly stimulating for Sean.
“He’s part of this journey she’s on, but she’s piloting the ship, and that’s how she likes it.”
“NOT AN EASY SOLUTION”
However, the boyfriend doesn’t value Sean’s chances of things working out with Robin over the long term because of his badass personality.
For now, they believe the actor-director will have to settle for the relative peace of the couple’s status as parents of two young adults.
The source said: “They have decided, as they have in the past, to present a common front as co-parents to help their children, particularly their son Hopper, achieve their dreams of acting and filming.” make films and shows come true.
“They’re on the same page in that sense, but it’s going to take a lot of movement to get Robin to see Sean in a different way.
“There is no simple solution to this like couples therapy.
“He’s been the same guy since he was nineteen, a rebel who feels most comfortable when he’s in charge.
“Yes, Sean is an enlightened guy, but his enormous pride makes it difficult for him to let go of control or his great sense of responsibility.

“He doesn’t have much to prove himself as an artist or a philanthropist anymore, but he still walks around all day like he’s carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders.
“If he’s going to have a successful relationship well into his golden years, he has to let that go and loosen up, and that hasn’t happened yet.”
