An animated series of Scott Pilgrim is in the works at Netflix, with creator Bryan Lee O’Malley writing the script and BenDavid Grabinski as executive producer.
In late 2020, Scott Pilgrim vs The World director, Edgar Wright, revealed that there were plans to return Scott Pilgrim through animation, though at the time he was careful to say that nothing was official in the film. works and it is for discussion only.
Well, in what’s easily the best news of the day, it’s no longer just a plan. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, a Scott Pilgrim animated series currently in the works at Netflix, with series creator Bryan Lee O’Malley and Are You A Fear Of The Dark? showrunner BenDavid Grabinski as executive producer.
While the series is currently being worked on by O’Malley and Grabinski, the plans don’t seem to have materialized yet, as The Hollywood Reporter says, “Netflix and UCP, the division of Universal Studio Group behind The Umbrella Academy and UCP. Chucky, which is developing a brand new film adaptation, has no orders for the series yet.The two will screen the series if the series continues to be released, with anime company Science SARU providing the animation work. The company’s Eunyoung Choi will take on the role of producer and Abel Gongora is the director of the film”.
The report also mentions that the band members from the 2010 film are also “preparing for the anime”. It is also said that ” [Edgar] Wright and production partner Nira Park will receive executive producer credit along with Marc Platt, Jared LeBoff, and Adam Seigel of Marc Platt Productions, and Michael Bacall”.
Considering the anime’s current lack of detail, it’s unclear if the anime will stick more closely to the graphic novels than the movie, but that seems like a much better setup for a series.
