Schaumburg teenager charged with first degree murder after 18-year-old was stabbed to death in video

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – A 17-year-old man was charged with first-degree murder Monday after a video in September showed an 18-year-old being stabbed to death during an altercation.

Manuel Porties, 18, died around 6pm on September 28 in front of a house in the 600th block of Sturnbridge Lane. The family said Porties met a 17-year-old for a fight and someone recorded it.

In the video, Porridge gets punched in the face and falls to the ground. It then showed the 17-year-old suspect, who was initially charged with a misdemeanor, stabbing Porties in the neck while he was lying on the ground.

Porridge died from being stabbed.

After the video surfaced, the family said prosecutors told them they refused to file murder charges due to “fighting each other.” However, the Schaumburg Police Department worked with the Cook County State Attorney’s Office to bring new charges of first-degree murder.

“He stood on top of my son and finished him off, and that’s not murder?” Porties’ father said in September.

Authorities are withholding the suspect’s name and photograph because he is a juvenile. At this point, it is unknown whether the case will be elevated to adult court.

The teen is scheduled to appear in bond court on Tuesday.
