Saquon Barkley is at risk of losing huge sums in Bitcoin after the crypto markets crash

SAQUON BARKLEY could lose a lot of money tied up in Bitcoin after the recent crypto crash.

The New York Giants, running back last year, announced that he would convert all of his marketing and endorsement deals to crypto.

Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies have taken a huge tumble in recent months, with more than half of their value wiped out.

Barkley appeared The best business show podcast last summer when the decision was announced.

The 25-year-old said: “We’re seeing inflation and we’re learning that you can’t save wealth.

“That’s why I’m going to take my marketing money in bitcoin.”

Saquon is coming from a cruciate ligament tear and he said the physical nature of being an NFL running back played a role in his decision.

The Giants star explained: “If you want to see the KDs, the Lebrons and Bradys of the world and create generational wealth, you can’t do that with the sport I play and the position I play and post-injury.

“If you don’t sit in football for a whole year, you realize that this game could be taken away from you.”

Barkley has endorsement deals with Nike, Pepsi, and Toyota, among others.

Sports business expert Joe Pompliano claimed that its deals total more than $10 million annually.

It’s not clear how much of this Barkley has tied up in crypto, and The Sun has contacted his representatives.

Saquon isn’t the only NFL star venturing into the world of bitcoin.

Last week there were reports that Jacksonville quarterback Trevor Lawrence had invested part of his NFL signing bonus in crypto.

But the Jaguars quarterback shut those rumors down, clarifying that the bonus he invested was one that gave him a confirmation with FTX.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, meanwhile, called Bitcoin the future at a conference earlier this year.

He said: “The Fed continues to print trillions of dollars and the best defense against inflation, in my opinion, is bitcoin.

“I went down the rabbit hole years ago and once you get to the other side, there’s no turning back.

“I’m excited to see how things pan out, but I’m very optimistic that crypto will continue as it has been.”
