Sailor “mauled by shark” leaving him fighting for his life with serious injuries as paramedics rush to the scene

A SAILOR is fighting for his life after reportedly being mauled by a shark.

Emergency services rushed to the scene near Port Hedland in Australia after a man in his 30s was reportedly seriously injured.

Shortly after 11:30 a.m., two St John Ambulance crews were called to Richardson’s Boat Ramp and brought the man back to shore.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics and then taken to the Hedland Health campus as a Priority 1 patient.

The man is believed to have been attacked far offshore while on a boat in the area.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service was also on hand should the man need to be transferred to Perth.

Police and rescue workers remain on site.

Experts from the Ministry of Basic Industry and Regional Development are investigating the incident.

The department urged people to check for shark activity using the Surf Life Saving WA SharkSmart website, app and Twitter feed.

The horrific attack comes a week after a 39-year-old woman was beaten to death just 50 feet from shore in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa.
