Russian cargo ship SEIZED on English Channel for ‘violating EU sanctions’ imposed by the West after Putin’s invasion of Ukraine

A Russian cargo ship was intercepted by French authorities in the English Channel.

The 416ft boat belongs to one of 100 Russian companies that have been sanctioned by the EU this week.

It has now been seized after being discovered early this morning.

Captain Veronique Magnin of the French Maritime Province said the car-carrying vessel, bound for St.Petersburg, was “strongly suspected of having any connection with the Russian interests targeted by the sanctions”.

The ship was diverted to the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer in northern France between 3am and 4am

The European Union, along with the US and many other countries, has announced sanctions against Russia.

The company that owns the ship belongs to a Russian businessman who is on the EU’s sanction list, Magnin said.

The Russian embassy in France is seeking an explanation from the authorities about the seizure, Russia’s RIA news agency quoted the embassy as saying.
