Russia’s relations with the West remain deeply tense amid concerns that thousands of their troops accumulation on the Ukrainian border was a prelude to a full-blown invasion.

Ukraine’s spy chiefs say they believe A full scale invasion is planned for the new year.

Preparations for full-scale production of Zircon at a top secret factory near Moscow follow the recent successful tests of the missile.

Most recently, there are was a successful test Hypersonic missile from a frigate in the White Sea on November 18.

A month earlier, Zircon was fired for the first time from a submarine.

Vladimir Putin has ordered the Russian Navy to deploy the Zircon missile next year, boasting that it is “really unparalleled… in the world”.

Zircon will be deployed on Russian frigates and later on submarines.

The missile has been in development for more than 20 years and is seen as an important next step for Putin’s arsenal.

Last month, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov said Russia was far ahead of the West in hypersonic weapons – and intends to maintain its lead.

“We’ve been forging ahead, specifically in the area of hypersonic weapons, and[those]are based on new physical principles,” he said.

“We currently have a serious advantage in this respect over the leading Western countries – and will try to maintain this position.”

Amid rising tensions, Putin’s ally, Fyodor Lukyanov, warned of a “new conflict” if Nato expands further east in an article published last night.

Lukyanov, the chairman of the Russian Council on Foreign Affairs, which advises the Kremlin, also made it clear that Moscow would seek more than verbal reassurances from Nato.

“The recent round of escalation in Eastern Europe shows that the old principles of security on the continent are no longer effective,” he wrote.

“Russia will have to change the system and draw new ‘red lines’.”

In recent days, Moscow has said it has increased its military “cooperation” with Beijing in the face of accusations of intimidation from Washington, including US nuclear bombers fly near their border.

Isabel Sawkins, a research fellow at the Henry Jackson Society specializing in Russia, said Russia and China joining forces could “potentially be a disaster” for Western powers.

“Bringing China into the conversation is a dangerous addition to the West,” she told The Sun Online.
