‘Roy never seen so nervous’ – Richards tells Keane that Erling Haaland’s dad is ‘waiting for him’ after the infamous tackle.

MICAH RICHARDS poked fun at ‘nervous’ Roy Keane after Erling Haaland’s incredible Premier League debut.

The 22-year-old Norwegian striker scored both goals in Manchester City’s 2-0 win over West Ham at the London Stadium on Sunday.

Haaland’s father Alfe-Inge was also in the stands at the London Stadium, as were Sky Sports pundits Richards and Keane.

And ex-City defender Richards couldn’t resist joking about Haaland Snr’s long-running feud with the Irishman.

While discussing the performance of the new Cityzens star in their post-match analysis, former England international Karen Carney said Haaland was genetically made to be a good player because of his family genes.

She said: “We checked earlier, his mother is also an athlete and we know what his father did in his history. He will be an absolute example.”

Super Sunday presenter David Jones then asked: “What did his dad do?”

That prompted Richards to say, “He was waiting for Roy over there before. I’ve never seen Roy so nervous, to be honest.”

A smiling Keane then joked, “I think he said to wait for me over there!”

A clash between Manchester United and City in 2001 virtually ended Keane Haaland’s senior career with a knee-high tackle that resulted in him being sent off, suspended for three games and fined £5000.

Keane later admitted the foul was intentional, resulting in another five-game suspension and a £150,000 fine.

The feud between the pair began four years earlier when Haaland, then playing for Leeds, stood over Keane and gave him words as the midfield hardman lay on the ground in agony after suffering a serious knee injury.

Despite the issue with his father, Keane praised Haaland for his performance against West Ham, saying: “Haaland gives them another option.

“City’s Passing and the way they’ve worn West Ham down which are no hoaxes. They played with them. But even if teams move up, Haaland will now fall behind.

“It will now be a different challenge for the defenders when Haaland runs at the back. West Ham couldn’t cope.”
