ITV Sport have revealed that their technical director Roger Pearce has sadly passed away.

The death of Pearce, who was responsible for World Cup coverage at this year’s winter tournament in Qatar, was announced by the broadcaster ahead of Tuesday night’s Group B clash between USA and Wales.

Sharing the devastating news, ITV Sports presenter Mark Pougatch said: “We have some very sad news to bring to you from here in Qatar.

“ITV Technical Director Roger Pearce, who set off here for his eighth World Cup.

“Roger and his team are the brilliant people who bring the images into your home and make everything possible.”

He continued, “Roger was a hugely respected figure in the TV sports broadcasting industry.”

Mark said: “For ITV he was instrumental in the logistical planning and execution of the Rugby World Cup as well as the Football World Cup and the European Championship.

“He always had a smile on his face and left a smile on your face. He was absolutely dedicated, professional, charming and immensely popular. He will be missed by so many people in the industry and at home.”
