‘Rival clubs, Erik ten Hag, Man Utd squad… nobody wants him’ – Carragher slams Cristiano Ronaldo for forcing transfer

JAMIE CARRAGHER has ripped up wanton Cristiano Ronaldo and said NONE from Erik ten Hag, Manchester United or rival clubs want him.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, 37, has publicly expressed his desire to leave Old Trafford this summer, just a year after returning from Juventus.

Agent Jorge Mendes put him in the window but Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid have all turned down the chance to sign him.

Ronaldo returned to United’s first-team squad on Sunday as he played in the first half of the 1-1 draw with Rayo Vallecano.

But after being pulled off at half-time, the striker was spotted leaving the ground before full-time – Ten Hag called it “unacceptable”.

Carragher now reckons Ten Hag and the United squad no longer want him, let alone the opposing clubs.

Speaking to Gary Neville about The Overlap, Carragher fumed: “I always thought [Ronaldo] was a bizarre signature.

“I always felt that this situation would come, even if Ronaldo did great [United].

“He signed a two-year deal plus one more year, which I couldn’t believe.

“He’ll never play second fiddle to anyone, but as a player at a certain stage in your career, we all know you’re not the same player.

“His career has lasted longer because he’s such a great professional.

“But the fact that he’s 37, 38 this season isn’t the same player anymore. He’s still a great goalscorer, but he’s not the same player anymore.”

Carragher continued: “No other club in Europe want him right now, I could be wrong.

“But it doesn’t look like United can get him out so other clubs don’t want him at the moment.

“And I guess if you asked Ten Hag, I don’t think he wants him.

“And I’m not entirely sure the Manchester United dressing rooms would want Cristiano Ronaldo right now.”

Neville went one step further and said United GOT TO Ax Ronaldo since it’s their only option.

The ex-Red Devils skipper explained: “I’m uncomfortable as an ex-United captain watching ex-United senior player thinking the star player is playing in the dressing room.

“It has sometimes happened in recent years that Paul Pogba’s agent – not necessarily Pogba all the time, but his agent – has always played with the club.

“You can’t have your star player at a club that runs the place. You can’t have him.

“We know [Ronaldo] can not [high pressing] – and the way he wants to play with the ball, I’m not sure if it fits Ten Hag’s way.

“When that statement came out that Ronaldo wanted to leave, and then on Monday morning I think something else came out – I’m not sure the club even knew.

“The timing at the start of the season was terrible, it undermined Ten Hag straight away – it meant Ten Hag had literally every single press conference he held was only wiped out by the Ronaldo issue.

“I think looking back, Pep [Guardiola], [Jurgen] clop, [Antonio] Conte, Sir Alex Ferguson – when a player becomes the dominant factor and distraction in a manager’s press conference, only one thing has to happen.

“We all know it.”
