Ridley Scott Turns Down Disney: I Don’t Do Wizard Films

The legendary director said that Disney approached him about directing a witch movie, but “it wasn’t a good idea.”

Ridley Scott has been involved in a variety of genres throughout his nearly five-decade-long directing career, from historical fiction to science fiction. But while the British filmmaker is constantly expanding his horizons, there’s one genre that audiences shouldn’t expect him to venture into anytime soon.

Scott has a long history of working with Fox, but Disney wanted to take their partnership in a different direction. And the Oscar winner doesn’t care. Scott has directed some of the most iconic sci-fi films of all time, but clearly, fantasy is a bridge too far for the 84-year-old filmmaker.

His latest comment is not surprising, as Scott continues to be a strong advocate for studios making movies aimed at mature audiences. He expressed disappointment that his historical epic “Last match“Struggling at the box office, and recently remarked that the comic book series’ dominance is a sign that ‘we’re losing cinema’.”

Scott says that while he’s willing to work in a variety of film genres, he has high standards for the projects he takes on. “The older I get, the more I look for things About something, not just entertainment,” he said. “It has to have an effect on someone.” The prolific executive is known for his productivity and doesn’t seem to slow down even a bit. For now, he continues to focus on the classics. He is currently preparing to direct the Napoleon Bonaparte biopic “Kitbag”, soon followed by the sequel to “Gladiator”.
