The Brazilian was replaced by Yves Bissouma in the 52nd minute after suffering a calf injury.
And the emotions were too much for him as he spoke in Portuguese on the way out of the ground.
With almost six weeks to go before the start of Brazil’s World Cup campaign, his tournament now seems in doubt.
Richarlison went down injured in the Everton box just after half-time.
He was massaging his calf with a pained expression on his face as Spurs paramedics rushed over to tend to him.
The decision was quickly made that the 25-year-old could not continue against his former club.
Richarlison bit his shirt in frustration, looking emotional after being forced.
Spurs gazer Antonio Conte looked worried as Richarlison limped away and the Italian confirmed the striker will get a scan on Sunday.

Conte said of the extent of the problem: “We don’t know, we hope it’s not so serious that he had a problem in his calf.
“He’ll have an MRI tomorrow to understand, we hope it’s not serious.”
Brazil will start the World Cup season on November 24 with a Group G match against Serbia.
Richarlison should be in the squad after appearing in two friendlies against Ghana and Tunisia last month.
Manager Tite will now be sweating over the £60m forward’s fitness.
Richarlison had started the home game against Everton while Dejan Kulusevski was sidelined.
The Sweden winger has now missed the last five games with a hamstring injury.
Harry Kane put Spurs ahead from the spot after tripping off England team-mate Jordan Pickford.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg then sealed the points with a deflected shot after four minutes.
