Ric Flair recently recalled how The Miz initially had to overcome criticism in the locker room when he joined WWE.
Miz appeared on several reality television shows in the early 2000s, including MTV’s The Real World. Although he has shown potential in WWE’s own reality series, Tough Enough, many superstars have questioned whether he is serious about becoming a wrestler.
Flair was still performing as a competitor in the ring when The Miz signed his first WWE contract in 2005. Speaking about Woooooo Nation Uncensored podcast, the 16-time world champion asserts that many people don’t like the rookie superstar:
“It’s correct [he struggled to gain acceptance], that’s exactly what it was. He’s not a super athlete with a super athletic background. He was just a guy who wanted to be a wrestler, but he gave it up. I told you, when you finished your script, he would rehearse from 2 p.m. until it aired,” Flair said.
Miz got her first win WWE Champion in 2010 and won WrestleMania 27 in 2011. The 41-year-old was tipped off by many when he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame one day.
Ric Flair likes The Miz like a bad guy
The Miz worked as both babyface and heel during his 17 years in WWE. He is currently performing as the bad guy alongside his wife Maryse on RAW.
Ric Flair believes the two-time WWE champion is better suited to show a heel, even though he’s a good guy in real life:
“He’s just a much better heel. I think it’s more acting because he’s not an arrogant guy in real life. I think he learned how to get rid of that character. He does not in any way shape or create a pr**k, but to be a good heel you have to have some pr**k in you. I’m proud of him and again, I can’t say enough good about him.”
Miz and Maryse will join forces to face another WWE couple, Edge and Beth Phoenix, at the Royal Rumble 2022 on January 29.
