Reece James reveals Chelsea dressing room is ‘crazy’ after January spending spree

REECE JAMES admits it’s a “crazy” time at Chelsea after returning from injury to find seven newcomers in a £280m spree.

The right-back made his comeback after six weeks in the 0-0 Premier League home game against Fulham on Friday.

Ironically, James is one of the few blues whose first-choice position appears secure following Graham Potter’s massive upset.

But even then, Potter still spent £31million on full-back Malo Gusto, despite the 19-year-old being immediately loaned to Lyon.

James, 23, tells Football every day: “It’s a great feeling to be back. I was out a long time.

“It was crazy. We had a lot of signings.

“We didn’t perform as usual, so it was difficult.

“We have a couple of big weeks ahead of us.”

Enzo Fernandez’s on-schedule £107m arrival from Benfica set a UK transfer record.

And the Argentina midfielder made his debut against the Cottagers alongside new £88m winger Mykhailo Mudryk.

But the former Shakhtar Donetsk hero, who was also wanted by Arsenal, was replaced halfway through his debut by another January signing, Noni Madueke.

But Potter said Mudryk had been struck down by a “severe cold”.

He told beIN Sports: “He’s suffered a little bit this week. So he was just feeling a little heavy-legged at half-time.”

James, on the other hand, can look forward to a longer run-in – if he stays fit.

Ninth-placed Chelsea have lost just one of the eight Prem games they have started this season.
