HOST of Chelsea legends and current stars have paid tribute to academy kit man Eric Asiedu following his death.
The club on Wednesday confirmed the sad news that the beloved backroom member passed away.
A statement said: “It is with great sadness that Chelsea Football Club learned of the passing of our colleague Eric Asiedu.
“Eric, in his role as Academy Kitman at our Cobham Training Grounds, was a hugely popular personality who always went about his work with an infectious smile and a wonderful positive attitude. He will be sorely missed by all of us and the pain of his sudden passing will be felt by many.
“Eric, affectionately referred to as ‘The Boss’ by players and staff alike, has done everything possible to build strong relationships with those he has worked with in the under-18 age group.
“He was a caring mentor and confidant in the dressing room for players taking their first tentative steps into full-time football while he meticulously went about his daily duties.
“He is a humble and warm character who joined Chelsea FC in April 2013. His presence and personality have proven to be an integral part of the values of our Academy culture.
“He’s been a constant on the sidelines for many of our youth team’s victories over the years.”
Former Chelsea captain John Terry took to Twitter to pay his respects, writing: “RIP ERIC Heartbreaking news today. BOSS, you are deeply missed.”
Winger Hudson-Odoi, 21, and full-back Reece James, 22, have both graduated from the Premier League club’s academy in recent years.
And the English international duo joined JT to post a touching tribute to *** online after working with him on their rise to the top at the club’s Cobham HQ.
Hudson-Odoi wrote: “This really hurts! RIP ERIC.
“You really helped me through a lot growing up in the academy and you were more than a kit man, you were a kind hearted man who only wanted the best for everyone!!
“Thank you for everything and may your soul rest in perfect peace.”
And James tweeted: “Rest in peace Eric.
“You were more than a Kit-Man. You had a really clean heart, a fun personality and always wanted the best for all academy boys. Miss the days of digging for fresh Nike socks.
“Until we meet again, fly up and rest. Will miss you.”
