A RARE coin has sold for over $1,700 online.
Coins sold in eBay listings is a 1921 Mercury Dime with no lettering on the back, which means it was minted in Philadelphia.
This coin is one of the rarest in the Mercury line with over 1.2 million pieces minted.
In fact, only the 1916-D and 1921-D Mercury Times have lower minting rates, according to Jamie Hernandez of Professional Coin Grading Services.
Another reason is that “Mint is mainly focused on producing Silver Dollars this year, so producing them in bulk”.

In average condition, the 1921 Philadelphia Mercury coin is worth just $90, but goes up to $3,780 in the “uncircular (MS-65)” variety, according to the report. United States Coin Book.
The coin on the eBay listing sold for a total of $1,725 after 50 bids. That means the coin is worth more than 1.7 million percent of its original value.
The seller of the coin is Great Southern Coin. The coin distributor claims the piece is graded with “AU”, which stands for almost non-cyclical.
Currently, there are different types of Mercury 1921 listed on eBay in the thousands.
