RAPPER TrueBleeda was among two people shot dead in a targeted attack outside the Mall of Louisiana.
The 18-year-old was along with 19-year-old Clifton Lindsey were the victims of a shooting on February 25.
Two other people, aged 19 and 21, also in the car at the time were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The shooting happened in broad daylight at a busy intersection of Bluebonnet Avenue and Picardy Avenue around 1:30 p.m. – an area not prone to gun violence.
It is thought that the deaths are not random but related to “rival gangs”.
“We believe they planned this,” Baton Rouge Police Department spokesman L’Jean McKneely said Friday.
Police said the assailants left their bullet-riddled car behind and were picked up in a separate getaway vehicle.
“We thought it was safe,” an unnamed witness told WBRZ. “It’s not a place where you have to witness something like this on a day you’re just trying to get out and do some shopping.”
Police said the motive and suspect are still unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
Sheriff Murphy Paul said the majority of violence is concentrated in certain areas of Baton Rouge.
TrueBleeda, whose real name is Donte Dorsey, is considered a rising star in the rap world, garnering a growing audience on Spotify, where he has racked up more than 2,800 monthly streams and four of them. His five most streamed songs reach around 15,000 streams at least.
His last video, Soul Survivor, was released on February 22, just three days before his tragic death.
Baton Rouge, Louisianarecorded 149 homicides in 2021, with more than 24 killings occurring as a result of shootings by drivers or people sitting in or sitting in cars.
Mayor Sharon Weston Broome said in a statement: “Today, we witnessed yet another disturbing wave of gun violence that rocked our own community with a shooting along Bluebonnet Blvd. . This afternoon.
“This violence affects everyone in our parish. As we work to bring justice to the victims, we must understand that we cannot be controlled by fear.
“We must work together to identify offenders and strengthen accountability, to create a safer community for all.
“The residents of Baton Rouge deserve to live in a peaceful community. I am confident that when we come together, we as a community can overcome these challenges for a better future. “
