DUTCH star Quincy Promes has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a fatal stabbing at a family gathering last year, it has been reported.
The Spartak Moscow striker, 29, has been taken into custody and is “on suspicion of stabbing a relative … in which the victim, the suspect’s cousin, suffered a serious knee injury”, the prosecutor’s office said. said in a statement.
Dutch media reported that the former Ajax player, who moved to the Moscow side in February in a deal worth 8.3 million euros ($9.4 million), is a suspect.
Promes was arrested in mid-December and later released in connection with an incident that took place earlier last year at a family party in the pretty town of Abcoude, just outside Amsterdam.
He allegedly got into a scuffle after arguing with relatives and other family members immediately intervened, news reports said at the time.
The fees were relatively pressed in November last year.
After investigating, prosecutors decided to charge Promes with attempted murder, or alternatively aggravated assault.
“The suspect and his attorney have been informed of the decision to prosecute,” they said in the statement.
A court date has yet to be decided.
Amsterdam-born Promes joined Ajax in 2019 from Sevilla for a fee of 15 million euros, before returning to Spartak, where he was named Russia’s Player of the Year in 2017.
He has scored seven goals in 50 appearances for the Dutch national team since his debut in 2014.
His last appearance was in the Netherlands’ shock 0-2 loss to the Czech Republic in a Euro 2020 match in June.
