Quebec reports 2 COVID-related deaths, booster shots open to people 80 and older

Quebec added 517 new COVID-19 infections on Tuesday and two more virus-related deaths.

The seven-day average of daily cases remains above the 600 mark at 632.

Since the health crisis began, Quebec has counted 435,366 infections and 418,110 recoveries, bringing the number of active cases to 5,708.

Of the new cases, 326 are people who have not been vaccinated or who have not received their first dose of the vaccine in less than 14 days.

The number of hospitalized patients decreased by two cases compared to the previous day for 200 patients. Of those, 47 are in intensive care, an increase of five since Monday.

The latest data from the health department shows that people who are not vaccinated are 16.1 times more likely to be hospitalized than those who are fully vaccinated.

To date, more than 13.4 million doses of the vaccine have been administered in Quebec, including 9,345 doses in the last 24 hours.

Currently, 88.5% of children 12 years of age and older are fully immunized.

People 80 years of age and older can now book their booster injection appointment on the government Clic Sante website.

On Wednesday, appointments will be open to people 75 and older.

The government has recommended a third dose for all Quebe Cancer people aged 70 years and over, as well as those who have received two doses of AstraZeneca vaccine.

The death toll from the virus is now 11,548.
