Putin is recruiting 300,000 additional troops in a desperate attempt to halt the army’s collapse after Ukraine’s blitz counterattack

VLADIMIR Putin will bring 300,000 additional troops to the front when he announced a partial mobilization of Russian troops today.

As the tyrant’s disastrous war falters and Moscow loses ground on the battlefield, the desperate despot has called up more conscripts to bolster the effort in Ukraine.

The total number of reservists drafted in the partial mobilization is 300,000, officials said.

In his first televised address since the start of the war, Putin said: “To protect our motherland, its sovereignty and territorial integrity. To ensure the safety of our people and the people of the liberated areas.

“I consider it necessary to support the proposal of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff to declare partial mobilization in Russia.”

Putin said he signed a decree on partial mobilization to begin on Wednesday in a desperate attempt to prevent his army from collapsing amid Ukraine’s blitz counterattack.

Russia has lost about $1 billion in military equipment during the three-week counterattack that left tanks and ammunition behind by fleeing battalions as Ukraine retook tracts of land.

Dramatic footage has captured Russian troops surrendering en masse, with reports of plummeting morale among the soldiers.

He added: “We are talking about partial mobilization, that is, only citizens who are currently in reserve are conscripted, and especially those who have served in the armed forces have a certain military specialty and relevant experience. “

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said in a TV interview on Wednesday that conscripts and students will not be mobilized, only those with relevant combat and service experience.

He said that 5,937 Russian soldiers have been killed in Ukraine so far. Western estimates of Russian military losses are in the tens of thousands.

In his speech, Putin also warned the West that it was not a “bluff” that Russia would use any means at its disposal to protect its territory.

He also made a thinly veiled threat to bombard the West with nuclear weapons, saying he had “many weapons” he was ready to use.

In a haunting speech, he warned the West: “I have many guns – it’s not a bluff.”

Putin accused the West of nuclear blackmail and took note of statements by some senior NATO officials about the possibility of using nuclear weapons of mass destruction against Russia.

He added: “If the territorial integrity of our country is threatened, we will use all means at our disposal to defend Russia and our people, this is not a bluff.

“Russian citizens can rest assured that the territorial integrity of our Fatherland, our independence and our freedom will be secured by any means at our disposal.

“Those trying to blackmail us with nuclear weapons should know that the wind can blow their way.”

Putin also claimed that Western countries are trying to “block” any independence and development.

He added: “To brutally impose their will on other people.

“The aim of the West is still to weaken and destroy, they say so openly.”

Last night, Putin mysteriously canceled a last-minute speech.

Kremlin insider Sergei Markov then announced on the social media platform Telegram, just over two hours after Putin’s speech, that his speech was “postponed until tomorrow”.

The political insider said: “The longer President Putin’s already announced speech is delayed, the more serious announcements it will contain.”
