And in an extraordinary rant, he claimed his side were going backwards and failed to take responsibility for their recent poor performances.
Now ex-Liverpool star Carragher believes Daniel Levy should “put the ex-Chelsea manager out of his misery” and sack him tonight.
Carragher tweeted: “Conte wants to be sacked this international break.
“Spurs should just put him out of his misery and do it tonight.”
Carragher was later quizzed by ex-Watford star Troy Deeney about Spurs’ plight.
The Sky Sports pundit continued: “His argument that Spurs haven’t won for a long time is correct, but you don’t talk about your own club like that.
“Especially when you get a fortune from them! Arsenal’s improvement this season after finishing above them last season defeats a lot of his arguments.”
While Tottenham are currently fourth, Champions League rivals Newcastle have two games in hand and are just two points behind the north London side.
In recent weeks, Spurs have been knocked out of the FA Cup by Sheffield United and have been defeated by AC Milan in two matches in the Champions League.
Conte was particularly furious at his team’s collapse against Southampton.
He told BBC Sport: “I’m really upset because this isn’t the first time and I think today I can tell you it’s an upset because we win 3-1 with 15 minutes to go and I think , you must win .
“Instead we showed that another time, things improved last season but we lost last season’s characteristics. I don’t want to talk about the technical aspect, the spirit is missing.
“We’re not a team. We are a team where everyone thinks of themselves.
“If you’re like that it can happen, you lose to Sheffield United and you lose the FA Cup and AC Milan and end that run by winning 3-1 and the last 15 you can give them a chance to come back.

“I don’t see the players’ sense of responsibility.”
Conte added that he believes his team is going backwards and that Saturday’s collapse was “unacceptable”.
“It’s difficult now – we’re working hard with this group and we’re moving in the right direction,” Conte continued.
“We’re falling behind, I see a lot of negative situations and a lot of selfish situations and players I don’t like. I know the way of beating teams, in the past I’ve beaten a lot of teams and won teams.
“Now we go back instead, no one cares. I’m very frustrated with this because me and the staff stay every day to think of a way we can improve. To be honest, it’s time that I took responsibility for myself.” Staff, the club, but also the players.
“The players go on the pitch, I’m the coach, OK, I take responsibility, the players have to take something. What happened in the last period is unacceptable and I tried to speak at every moment to try to improve and transfer the situation.” how important it is to be a team and help each other, but I don’t see that.
“Today it happened in a game we won 3-1, it’s in your hands but we have to take the environment.

“The club and I are always under surveillance, but the players have to take responsibility because I don’t see that.

“In a process where you want to build something, the tactical aspect is important, but the spirit is important.
“The mind has to stay focused and despite a year and a half, I saw a lot more last season. This season we’re going backwards.”
