Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) Head coach Mauricio Pochettino has a selection headache that doesn’t seem to be over. While the party celebrates Lionel Messihave been long awaited to return to coaching the first team after being infected with COVID-19, they have been dealt with again blow.
In one medical update provided by the club, it was revealed that the star striker Kylian Mbappe Injured in the groin during exercise. He is currently being treated for pain and further evaluation will be performed on Friday.
This puts his participation in the league clash with Stade Reims late on Sunday in great doubt. L’Equipe also reported that Mbappe was sidelined from training on Tuesday and Wednesday due to the same issue.
It will be a huge loss for PSG if he is left out of their upcoming clash.
Mbappe has been in excellent form this season, scoring 14 goals and providing 13 assists in 29 games. He has scored 10 goals and provided eight assists in 19 Ligue 1 games.
The Frenchman is only behind AS Monaco’s Wissam Ben Yedder and Lille star Jonathan David in terms of goals and only behind Lens’ Jonathan Clauss in assists in Ligue 1 this season.
He is PSG’s most consistent player, even dragging them through some tight corners with his key interventions.
Messi scheduled to start, Neymar and Navas absent from PSG
The French giants’ medical report also sheds light on the condition of some of their other key players. Messi’s return was clearly the highlight of their training session yesterday and the Argentinian is likely to return to the typical squad.
However, Neymar has not yet recovered from a knee injury. The Brazilian picked up another injury last month and has been sidelined since.
But he has returned to individual training and is on his way to a full recovery. He is expected to resume training with the first team next week onward.
Keylor Navas, who tested positive for COVID-19 a few days ago, has now tested negative but is unlikely to feature in the matchday squad.
