PSG chaos as club ‘ordered to cut payroll costs’ with Neymar and Messi earning £1.6m-a-week alone

PARIS-SAINT-GERMAIN must cut their wage bill as Ligue 1 proposals target the champion’s staggering expenses.

A staggering 18 of the top earners in the French league play for the Parisians.

Monaco’s Wissam Ben Yedder and Cesc Fabregas find themselves among the PSG stars.

But according to L’Equipe, Ligue 1 will take steps to control PSG’s finances, with Lionel Messi and Neymar earning a combined £1.6m-a-week.

The DNCG, the financial authority responsible for overseeing French clubs’ accounts, will propose that no club can have more than 70% of its income on the payroll.

PSG are, of course, way above the suggested percentage.

The Ligue 1 champions’ payroll is currently at almost 91% of their turnover.

This means PSG will have to make significant cuts.

One way to cut payroll costs is to sack star man Neymar.

Neymar joined PSG in 2017 on a blockbuster world-record £198m deal.

But five years later, the French giants are open to cutting their losses and parting ways with the 30-year-old forward, according to Spanish newspaper AS.

The next proposed change is that no club can have more debt than its share capital.

And PSG would be hit hard as they reportedly inject capital through Qatar Sports Investments.

Such proposals are part of French football authorities’ acknowledgment that PSG’s financial strength is out of control.

There is concern that PSG, who have won eight leagues in the last ten seasons, are damaging the integrity of Ligue 1.

PSG reclaimed the Ligue 1 crown without a real fight this season ahead of Lille.

With three games to go, the Parisians are 14 points ahead of second-placed Marseille.

Despite their dominance in La Liga, boss Mauricio Pochettino could be on the way out.

The Argentine led a volatile season in Europe that saw PSG sit comfortably ahead of Real Madrid in the Round of 16. PSG chaos as club ‘ordered to cut payroll costs’ with Neymar and Messi earning £1.6m-a-week alone
