“So about – it’s been almost 10 years now – I can’t believe I’m actually telling this story. I went to a charity gala for Centrepoint, which is a charity for young homeless people that I love and have supported for many years,” William remember. “It’s an annual fundraiser, and I showed up, Jon Bon Jovi and Taylor Swift were also at the event, which almost blew me away.”

He continued, “When I sat down to watch Jon Bon Jovi perform his performance, I thought, ‘That’s it. My work is done. I’ll have dinner in a minute, and I can chat with some people, and you know, I’m on a bit of a mission right now. ‘ I don’t think what will happen next.”

“I sat next to Taylor Swift. She is to my left. And after Jon performed his first song, there was a pause and she turned to me, ” William explain. “She put her hand on mine, looked me straight in the eye, and said, ‘Come on, William. Let’s go and sing”.

Eight years later, William admits he still can’t believe he can go on stage and start singing with Taylor and Jon.

“To this day, I still don’t know what happened to me. Honestly, even now I’m cringing on what happens next, and I don’t understand why I’m giving up.” William speak. “But, honestly, if Taylor Swift looked you in the eye, touched your arm and said, ‘Come with me…’ I would have stood up like a puppy and said, ‘Yeah, okay. OK, that sounds like a great idea. I’ll follow you.’

“I walked onto the stage in a trance, and then about halfway through Jon Bon Jovi’s ‘Livin’ On a Prayer’, I woke up,” he continued. standing on stage singing ‘Livin ‘On a Prayer’ when I don’t even know the lyrics?”

William added, “But the young Centrepoint boys and girls there all loved it and cheered it on. So I thought, ‘Well, if they like it, the night is for them. So sod it. I can’t be the fool who will ruin it for everyone. ‘”

“And so I try to memorize some words and sing as hard as I can. Beneath my black tie, a lot of sweat is pouring out,” William laughing. “I feel like a swan, where I try to keep myself calm on the outside, but inside, my little feet are rowing fast.”

Despite years of experience standing in front of crowds and on stage, William admitted he was not prepared to sing in front of an audience.

“Now, many people may think that I am very comfortable on stage. When I give speeches and the like, I’ve done a lot of things already, they don’t matter,” William explain. “But I haven’t finished singing yet. Sometimes, when you’re taken out of your comfort zone, you have to roll with it.

He added, “And I think we’ve come to a stage in this life where we’re micromanaging ourselves. We worry about: how do we look on social media? Who said anything about me? What am I wearing? There’s a lot of pressure, but I think it’s okay to make a fool of yourself.”

“It’s okay to not take yourself too seriously and there are times where you let go and you just go, ‘You know what? I’m fine with this,’” William concluded. “So yeah, go ahead and have a laugh. And don’t go watch the video of me singing. Or go and watch it, but just laugh to myself about how I feel. “
