Prince Charles and Camilla arrive at Windsor Chapel for a Christmas service as the royals are forced to spend the Christmas holidays apart

PRINCESS Charles and Camilla went to Windsor Chapel for Christmas as the royal family was forced to spend the day apart.

The royal couple have been joined by Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex for the service, replacing the service the Queen normally attends at her Sandringham residence.

This will be the 95-year-old monarch’s first Christmas since Prince Philip’s death in April.

The Queen hit out her extended family at Sandringham and a lunch with 50 members of her extended family due to Covid fears.

Camilla, wearing a blue and turquoise checkered coat and matching hat, wished a “Merry Christmas” to the media as the couple made their way to the chapel.

Also at Windsor will be Princesses Beatrice, 33, and Eugenie, 31, their husbands Edo Mapelli Mozzi and Jack Brooksbank, and children August and Sienna.

Mike and Zara Tindall, and their children Mia, Lena and Lucas, also spent the night in Windsor.

Prince Charles, 73, and Camilla, 74, earlier this week revealed they would be joining the Queen on Christmas Day and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester are also expected.

But Prince William and Kate, both 39, and their children George, Charlotte and Louis, will be in Norfolk, and will be attended by members of the Middleton family.

Princess Anne, 71, has also been excluded as she is in quarantine after her husband Tim Lawrence tested positive for Covid-19.

The family will have a Christmas lunch before watching the Queen’s speech together on TV.

Your Majesty has been on “light duty” since spending a night in the hospital more than two months ago.

This year marks her second year at Windsor.

Last year she was with the Duke of Edinburgh and members of staff.

The king will then address the nation in his traditional message, which is said to be deeply personal.

Yesterday Buckingham Palace released a photo of the king taken during the recording of her annual festival address, filmed last week.

Accompanying it was a photo of her and Prince Philip taken in 2007 in the Broadlands, which was once the hometown of Lord Mountbatten, Philip’s uncle.

They have had several honeymoons and the photo recreates their famous honeymoon photo from 1947.
